"ANTONIAN MELODIES - Chimes of Brotherhood".
a CD dedicated to The Choir of St. Anthony’s College, Kandy, Sri Lanka.
| The Choir of St. Anthony’s College, Kandy held their first concert for 2008 at Fr. Angelo Rosati Memorial Auditorium of the College with their trademark presentation of On Eagle’s Wings where they launched their CD Antonian Melodies: Chimes of Brotherhood
The CD consists of pieces done in four languages, most prominent being the devotionals done in four part harmony. Added to these traditional Latin Classics such as Panis Angelicus, Veni Creator Spiritus add colour to the production.
Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara, the present priest in charge of the Choir recalls, “the story of the Antonian chorale as a unique one”. The College choir can be traced back to the first quarter of the 20th century. Then in the 1940’s and later in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s, when that dynamic personality the late Mr. Cyril Brown took the choir to unimaginable heights.
As a token of their appreciation, the maiden CD is dedicated to all the Old Boys of St. Anthony’s College.
Their intention together with the Choir Master, Rev. Fr. Araliya is to raise funds for a much needed “Choir Room”, a place of their own within the premises of the College where they can improve their standards since the College Choir has not been heard of for the last 30 or 40 years.
